How should the Utah Jazz proceed with their contract extension candidates?
As we head into the 2023-24 NBA season, the Utah Jazz have several players eligible for a contract extension. They range from rotation players to the very top of the lineup. These decisions are very much hinging on the franchise’s aims moving forward – are they planning to contend for the playoffs with their existing core, or are they showcasing certain players with a mind to trading them around mid-season? The answers will become evident with their decisions over the next several months.
As with any offseason, the extension decisions are rarely simple, and often not just about money. Offensive and defensive game planning by the coaching staff can affect a player’s perceived value, and their presence on the practice floor and in the locker room, as well as their fit in the community, can all be factors. And most importantly, the direction of the franchise in regard to contending, or building for the future, plays a big part.
