One Year Later: Grading the Utah Jazz trade of Bojan Bogdanovic with the Detroit
By Chad Porto
Verdict
The Utah Jazz and Detroit Pistons made a trade that may pan out for both squads in the long run, but as of right now, it hasn’t created any long-term returns for the teams. Both the Pistons and Jazz failed to make the playoffs, and when it comes to the Pistons, they weren’t even close.
Bogdanovic was supposed to be a running buddy of sorts with Cade Cunningham, but due to Cunningham’s injury, the pair never developed much chemistry. The Pistons lack a lot of good talent that can be relied on for wins, and while Bogdanovic helps them, he’ll never be as valuable to the franchise as he is right now.
Not trading him doesn’t make much sense. While it was a mighty swing the Pistons just didn’t capitalize on the trade. They didn’t get better, but they also didn’t get worse. Kelly Olynyk was an easy piece to trade, and for that reason, the Pistons gets a C.
Unless they can swap Bogdanvoic for a high-pick, it’ll be a trade doomed to be forgotten by time.
The Jazz are in the same boat in that regard. Olynyk didn’t move the needle for the team and is likely to be the answer to an obscure piece of sports trivia more than a component for a championship win.
That is unless the Jazz swaps him for something more valuable. Until that happens, like the Pistons, the Jazz are getting a C on this trade.
