Dillon Brooks

Entering the offseason, one of the most interesting storylines to follow will be the impending free agency of Dillon Brooks. The Memphis Grizzlies have already made it clear that they don’t plan on re-signing him this offseason, and that means he will be free to explore other opportunities. The big question is whether that will end up being a good or bad thing for him in the long run.

At this point, with the narrative that currently surrounds him, you can make the argument that Brooks’ market could be at an all-time low. And that could help a team like the Utah Jazz, which should be trying to sign low-risk, high-reward free agents. If that’s what Brooks ends up being, I would not be opposed to Utah making a move for him.

However, the last thing that Utah needs to do is try to outbid a player like Brooks just because they have the means to. In the right situation, Brooks could be a really good player again. While they are making the right steps forward, I simply don’t believe the Jazz are in a place or are foundationally set where they could thrive with a player like Brooks. Even less so if he’s one of the highest-paid players on the roster.
