5 potential Collin Sexton trades for the Utah Jazz to consider: Brooklyn Nets
Nets receive: Collin Sexton
Jazz receive: Royce O’Neale, Cam Thomas, 20232 1st-Round Pick (via PHX)
At first glance, Brooklyn Nets fans may hesitate at the thought of this trade. Cam Thomas took over the basketball world for a week around the trade deadline, but in reality, he was pretty inconsistent.
Brooklyn has all the infrastructure to build a championship contender. Mikal Bridges is an elite supporting player, as are guys like Cameron Johnson, Doran Finney-Smith, and Nic Claxton.
They just need a star.
Collin Sexton may not be the star they need, but this trade would allow them to keep Ben Simmons as trade bait for another potential deal to land a star while also adding a solid combo guard to the roster.
Meanwhile, the Jazz would capitalize on the upside and potential of Thomas. He may not be able to get the freedom he needs if Brooklyn decides to push to be a postseason-caliber team. In Utah, Thomas would be able to play much more freely.
The 21-year-old will be able to handle the ball, and, under Will Hardy, develop into a more controlled player.
Plus, the Jazz would get Royce O’Neale back after trading him this past summer. He could potentially net them another first-round pick at the 2024 trade deadline.
Add a late first-round pick in this year’s draft by way of the Phoenix Suns, and this deal could be worth it for the Jazz.
