Can the Knicks finally make a deal?
After adding Jalen Brunson, the New York Knicks were all but certain they would also add superstar guard Donovan Mitchell before he was stolen away by Cleveland. Knicks fans were outraged that their hot start to the offseason was quickly extinguished, and they would have a “mid-three” of Randle, Brunson, and Barrett next season.
Maybe a different Jazz player could push them over the top? I know Utah had eyes on Obi Toppin, Cam Reddish, Immanuel Quickley, and Quentin Grimes. Bojan is only worth one of those players, but if Utah agrees to take on Evan Fournier’s contract ($18 million per year until 2024) then it only makes sense that a deal looks like this:
Take your pick of a young player. I think it’s fair for Utah to get a young player for Bojan, and a supplemental pick for taking Fournier’s awful contract. Detroit will be a fringe lottery team next year, so that gives Utah a pick in the 10-15 range next season, bringing their total to five in the first round of 2023.
The Knicks are probably desperate to appease fans after a horrible offseason, although James Dolan is a lizard person incapable of empathy towards New Yorkers. That being said, the Knicks were not a bad shooting team last year. They weren’t fantastic, but they might be convinced to add some shooting depth and seize a playoff berth while they can.
