#4: Jared Butler
After trading for Talen Horton-Tucker, Ochai Agbaji, Collin Sexton, and Stanley Johnson, Jared Butler might be the odd man out in the backcourt. After a rookie campaign in which he only saw the court in half the games and got a single start, it’s safe to say any team trading for him is gambling. They would be going after him based on his college career, although let’s be honest, he had an amazing time at Baylor.
I imagine he would come off the bench as a defensive guard, and Milwaukee had a terrible bench last year, despite their regular season success. The Bucks do not have a lot of cap room, but taking on a rookie contract is no chore.
This is one of the few trades that works for everyone. The Bucks get some cheap bench help, and the Jazz get to flip the 40th overall draft pick into a distant first-rounder. Plus, there’s no telling just how good Giannis and company will be in 2028-29, so this pick could turn out to be a fringe-lottery pick if all goes south in Wisconsin.
Butler won’t be the guy that adds another trophy to the case in Milwaulkee, but he would be a solid backup to Jrue Holiday for brief stints. He is solid on defense and can create his own shot, and playing behind one of the best starting fives in the league would do wonders for his growth.
