The Utah Jazz just made the monumental deal to send Donovan Mitchell to the Cleveland Cavaliers in exchange for 3 players and 3 unprotected first round picks, along with 2 pick swaps, but what does this mean for the future in Utah? It means that the team now owns an insane amount of picks over the next 6-7 years, and can rebuild the team however Danny Ainge and Will Hardy desire. But what about the team and the product on the court?

Many expected Utah to be one of the worst teams in the league in 2022 after making such moves, and while they’re definitely not going to be a good team, some of the talent they’ve got back can certainly make an impact. Ochai Agbaji, Talen Horton-Tucker, Walker Kessler and Lauri Markannen all have potential, but it’s Collin Sexton, acquired in the Cavaliers trade that could be the best of the bunch.

Sexton is still young at just 23-years of age, but after four years in the league, he’s proven he can be a 24 PPG scorer with playmaking skills and ability on the defensive end, and if the Jazz can surround him with talent while still stockpiling picks and young players, this could be a very fun team to watch. As a part of the trade, Sexton agreed to a deal with the Jazz for four-years, worth $72 million, completely guaranteed, and by the time the deal is up, the Young Bull will only just be hitting his prime.

The immediate future of the Jazz may be bleak, but with so many picks and some young talent, this team could potentially grow into one of the best teams in the West over the next five seasons, and if Sexton continues to grow, we could see a star develop before our eyes.
