The fans give their ideas for the best lineup

User @tacoonedollar built two lineups: one for instant offense and one for overall dominance. The first employs Karl Malone, Pistol Pete, Jeff Hornacek, Bogdanovic, and Clarkson. I agree that the team could average 140 points a night. The two-way team had Gobert, AK-47, Hayward, Bogdanovic, and Joe Ingles. My guess would be that Hayward would run the point, and I think that would work pretty well.

@Expertbrah was one of the only people to pick Donovan Mitchell, surrounding him with Ingles, Hayward, Millsap, and Mark Eaton. He suggested that he could have three ball handlers, an All-Star forward, and a multi-time Defensive Player of the Year, which makes up for the lack of a traditional point guard.

@bigdorcutt took a logical approach, surrounding John Stockton with oversized players like Malone, Millsap, Ingles, and Bogdanovic. Plus, that team has a lot of firepower.

@danielalanmann went with a lot of recency bias, selecting Gobert, Williams, Hayward, Millsap, and Joe Ingles. I’m not sure that lineup would work as well as some other ones, mostly due to injury concerns, but it could be a fun team to watch.

The best response came from @TheBMax.

He’s right. The $1 offense in Ingles and Clarkson is hard to pass up, and could you imagine if Mehmet Okur was inserted into the Malone/Stockton lineup? Micheal Jordan and company wouldn’t stand a chance.

His first lineup is the best one overall, but the middle one of Stockton, Gobert, Millsap, Clarkson and Bogdanovic would be the most fun. Stockton could dish down low to Millsap and Gobert, and Clarkson and Bogdanovic could just rain wide-open threes.

The third lineup suggested reminds me of the Dwight Howard Jazz. Just put a traditional center around as many shooters as you can and let him grab all the boards. That team made it to the Finals in 2009, so maybe it’s a recipe for success.

The Jazz are one of the winningest teams in NBA history, so they have the talent to make a lot of noise when compiling an all-time team. The Lakers, Spurs, Celtics, and maybe Heat could pass them, but the Chicago Bulls are way too top-heavy. Rose, Pippen, Jordan, Noah, and Rodman are all the five-dollar players, but once you get to the cheaper guys you start to run out of options. Even if all the NBA players ever are available, I’m still taking a whole lot of Jazzmen.
