3. Pete Maravich – 25.2 PPG
‘Pistol’ Pete Maravich is considered by many to be one of the greatest early players in NBA history, and if he played in today’s game, would be up there with Steph Curry and Ray Allen as the greatest shooters in history, with an impressive 6’5″ frame, full of skills that few of any size possess. In his day however, when the three point shot wasn’t valued as much as it is today, he was still able to put up an incredible 25.2 PPG over six seasons with the Utah Jazz, and if his life wasn’t tragically cut short, who knows just how good he would have become.
Pistol Pete was revered in his day for his flashy style which was so counter to the norm back then, as he had a flair all to himself, that included flashy behind the back passes and ridiculous circus shots. Pete won the hearts of Jazz fans for being completely himself on and off the court, and is considered by most NBA fans to be one of the most innovative players the game has ever seen, and he is deservedly recognized as one of the greatest scorers in Jazz and NBA history.
