5. Retool or rebuild?

Although the news surrounding Rudy Gobert and Donovan Mitchell will make bigger headlines around the NBA, this is the most important question for the Jazz to answer, as it will literally shape the franchise and where it’s heading for at least the next decade. If the Jazz do as many within the NBA world expect and move either Gobert or Mitchell, they’ll have a chance to retool and potentially take the next step, but what if the Jazz potentially trade both, and arm themselves with plenty of young talent, as well as a kings ransom of draft picks?

The Warriors, Grizzlies, Suns, Nuggets, Clippers and a few other teams are ready made to win the Western Conference in 2022/23, and if the Jazz don’t believe that adding future picks along with a player or two by moving one of these men, then playing the long game certainly comes into picture for Danny Ainge and co.

This idea isn’t something that Jazz fans would want to hear, and it’s the least likely option, but given how tough the Western Conference will be over the coming years, stockpiling such assets may not be the worst thing in the world. Ultimately, it’s more likely than not that the Jazz tried to add more height and offense around Donovan Mitchell, but if they find themselves an offer for each man that suits the idea of a quick, talented rebuild, anything is possible.
