Media pegs Utah Jazz head coach for new gig prematurely
The Utah Jazz have been a consistent franchise since they moved from New Orleans to Salt Lake City. With that said, they haven’t been the model of consistency. That designation belongs to the San Antonio Spurs.
Hopefully, that doesn’t mean that Quin Snyder is Alamo bound. Recent rumors suggest that he’s next in line to coach the Spurs once the legendary Gregg Popovich hangs up his clipboard.
Utah Jazz head coach bound for greener pastures?
Marc Stein seems to think so. He recently reported the rumor, and understandably, it’s picking up steam. It’s not very often that a current head coach finds his name attached to rumors about joining a different squad.
At the same time, it’s not very often that an icon like Popovich leaves an iconic franchise like the Spurs. Being named Pop’s successor would be quite the honor. Is it necessarily a more desirable gig than the one Snyder currently holds?
Utah Jazz in the thick of contention
At the time of this writing: no. The Utah Jazz, for all of their inconsistencies, have a real shot at winning the NBA Championship this season. The Spurs, to put it politely, do not.
Change does have a way of happening quickly in the NBA. A premature playoff flameout by the Jazzmen could have Donovan Mitchell reconsidering his postal code. If that happens, it could be the first in a series of dominos.
On the other hand, if the Jazz make a deep playoff run, it’s a safe bet that Mitchell will want to continue pushing ahead with the core he has right now. In that event, it’s hard to imagine Snyder bolting to join a rebuilding Spurs club.
Utah Jazz need to keep eyes on the prize
In other words, the stakes are high this season. Tell us something we didn’t already know.
The Jazz need to make a deep playoff run this season. They may need to in order to keep their franchise player and their head coach.
It’s a lot of pressure. Here’s hoping they can live up to it.
If not, it could spell danger for the Utah Jazz. They’ve already proven they’re capable of regular season success: they’ll need to accomplish something more this season.
