Utah Jazz dud: Jordan Clarkson
Breaking news: Jordan Clarkson struggles to coexist with Donovan Mitchell.
Last night was no exception to what’s become an absolute rule at the J-Notes. Clarkson finished this game with 13 points on 5/13 shooting from the field.
It may be the case that a spark plug, off-the-bench scoring archetype doesn’t work within an offense that’s already built around a score-first guard. It’s the least malleable archetype: it seems reasonable that it would be the hardest one to double-down on.
Hopefully, the team’s decision to stick with Clarkson through the deadline isn’t a more costly mistake than it looks on paper.
To our eye, it looks like enough of a problem as it stands.
Otherwise, this was an excellent performance for the Utah Jazz. If Rudy Gobert proved himself to have an extra dimension in his game, that’s incredible news. Meanwhile, Donovan Mitchell’s ability to pour in efficient scoring comes as no surprise to anyone.
