Utah Jazz Buyout Candidate #2: Jeremy Lamb

There’s a reason we didn’t include Lamb in our last buyout feature: he doesn’t feel like a realistic buyout candidate. He landed on the Sacramento Kings as part of the Domantas Sabonis deal. Having just acquired Domantas Sabonis, it doesn’t feel like the Kings should be in the business of buying out solid veterans.

They’ve got no reason to make Jeremy their sacrificial lamb.

(Ahem).

Regardless, he’s widely viewed as a buyout candidate, so here we are. Maybe we’re collectively betting on the Kings to do something inexplicable. As an organization, they’ve been known to do that.

Parting with Jeremy Lamb would qualify. He may not be a household name, but he is a solid, connective tissue player who any contender should be happy to roster. He’s a mere season removed from shooting 40.6% on 3.6 three-point attempts per contest. His 0.3 Defensive Box Plus/Minus (DBPM) from this season is indicative of a solid, if unspectacular defensive player.

Lamb is not a player that will make or break your team’s title odds. He’s a player that will enhance them incrementally. That’s about the best type of player the Utah Jazz can hope for at this point in the NBA season.

Verdict: Buy

With all that said, this team may not roster any buyout candidates after March 1st. With some internal growth, the Utah Jazz may be championship contenders anyway.
