Predicting Utah Jazz guard Donovan MItchell’s All-Star stats

Go back to the last slide. Read our assessment of Rudy Gobert in the All-Star game. Picture the opposite of everything we’ve said. You’ve basically just read the Donovan MItchell slide.

Mitchell provides much of the entertainment value that reigns supreme in the All-Star festivities. His rush hour handle, endless layup package and from-scratch three-point shooting fit perfectly.

He’ll probably get more play than Gobert. At the same time, he’ll be competing with a lot of talented co-stars for minutes and touches. That’s to be expected when you’re playing on a squad called Team LeBron.

Mitchell could easily go off. It’s just that so could Luka Doncic, James Harden, Chris Paul, or even Fred VanVleet. As we said, it will probably depend on whose hand gets hot first.

Given the inherent difficulties in making a prediction here, we’ll hedge our bets by splitting the difference. Look for Mitchell to have a solid night on Sunday.

Prediction: 12 points, 3 assists, 1 steal

At the end of the day, who cares? Hopefully, Utah Jazz fans do not. In a season with high expectations, they should be more focused on a trip to the NBA Finals.
