Utah Jazz goal #3: Settle off-court differences

Raise a hand if you’re tired of hearing about drama between Rudy Gobert and Donovan Mitchell. We’d raise ours enthusiastically if it wasn’t so difficult to type with the other.

The Utah Jazz as a collective group need to overcome the rift between their two best players. As we’ve said elsewhere, they don’t need to forge a best friendship. It’s probably too late for that.

They do need to be on the same page. NBA history has shown us that teams can withstand interpersonal issues. It’s also shown us that they can be the downfall of talented squads.

The key is probably to maintain professionalism. Grudges need to be put aside. If both Gobert and Mitchell can remain focused on basketball, it should minimize the impact of any hurt feelings between the two.

Surely, each can recognize each other’s importance to the team’s end goals. They just need to let that outweigh any other considerations.

Very teams in the NBA are without fault. In 2021-22, there is no overwhelming title favorite. The Utah Jazz, for all their struggles, are still in the mix. Meeting these 3 goals could push them over the top.
