Jerami Grant vs Utah Jazz (Rick Osentoski-USA TODAY Sports)

Utah Jazz trade for a star wing

Out of all the players reportedly on the trade market, Jerami Grant would clearly be the best fit on the Utah Jazz. Grant has proved his ability to play excellent defense as a role player during his time in Denver and has also proved himself as a talented scorer and primary option in Detroit.

In Utah, he would ideally display a combination of these roles. Grant reportedly would like to remain in a situation in which he can still be an important part of the offense, and does not have much interest in returning to a role-player situation. In Utah, he wouldn’t have to. Of course, Donovan Mitchell would remain the primary scorer and number one option, but Jerami Grant could be a great second option and fit next to him.

Grant would bring versatility as well as consistency to a Jazz team that currently lacks both. Grant has shown the ability to score on all three levels, and defend at a high level. If the Jazz can secure him via trade, I believe it instantly raises their ceiling.

Grant is on a moderate contract that can be easily matched using Bojan Bogdanovic, or Joe Ingles if you prefer. This deal as well, however, would revolve around the first-round picks attached. The Pistons are obviously not a very good team currently, and trading Grant for future picks makes a lot of sense. How many picks it will take to get him however remains unknown. He is certainly a great player, but I would not be alone in being a bit hesitant to trade over 2 first-round picks for Grant. Detroit’s asking price will undoubtedly be high but could come down closer to the February 10th deadline.

I am not the only analyst to suggest that Jerami Grant would be a great fit on the Jazz, most fans would agree with that fact. What is a bit tricky, though, is whether or not Utah is able to put together a trade package that trumps that of other potential Grant suitors. There has been rumored interest in Grant from almost all current contenders. Just in the past few weeks rumors have sprung up tying Jerami Grant to the Bulls, Lakers, Grizzlies, Celtics, and more. Whether or not the Jazz end up with Grant really depends on what other teams are willing to offer, and if it is more than the Jazz’s best offer.
