Utah Jazz dud: Mike Conley

Mike Conley is a paragon of consistency, so when he has an off night, it’s not a cause for major concern. That is likely all that happened last night: Mike Conley had an off night.

Furthermore, an off night from Conley looks different than an off night from, for example, Jordan Clarkson. When Conley’s not connecting, he’s willing to take a backseat. Last night, he practically disappeared.

All told, he finished this contest with 9 points on 4/12 shooting from the field, and 1/4 shooting from downtown. He did tally 5 assists, which is characteristic of the veteran. Conley is going to find a way to contribute every time he laces up. It’s just a matter of whether he makes a big or small contribution.

Last night, his contribution was small to say the least. He largely deferred to Donovan Mitchell, and that ended up being arguably the best decision he made in this game.

Nobody is saying Conley was horrible last night. He was just unremarkable enough to be considered a dud.

The Utah Jazz have now won 8 in a row. This is the hottest team in the NBA. They’ll hope to carry that heat into a contest with the San Antonio Spurs on December 17.
