Ranking every season in Utah Jazz franchise history
Utah Jazz 2019-20 Record: 44-28, Lost NBA Western Conference First Round vs Denver Nuggets 3-4
These three seasons being ranked chronologically was not the result of an error: instead, it’s a testament to the consistent success of the Donovan Mitchell / Rudy Gobert era.
The 2019-20 NBA season was the first to be marred by the (somehow) still ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. Having said that, this iteration of the Jazz is about as consistent with the current club as the space required to socially distance.
Donovan Mitchell and Rudy Gobert continued to headline. Bogdan Bogdanovic had his first season with the club, as did Jordan Clarkson. Joe Ingles and Royce O’Neale remained in tow. The backend of the rotation has changed in the two offseasons separating 2019-20 and the current season, but the central players remain the same.
Once again, Utah Jazz fans could argue that the 2019-20 season represented a step backward from the 2017-18 season when the club actually won a playoff series. We’d remind those fans that we’re writing this piece with the same benefit of hindsight that they’re reading it with.
This core group would spend 2019-20 gelling, and spend 2020-21 reaping the rewards of that opportunity.
