Utah Jazz dud: Joe Ingles

Joe Ingles has earned a reputation as a player whose on-court impact goes beyond basic counting stats. Still, if not for a (questionable) fourth quarter technical foul, one might have forgotten he existed in last night’s bout.

Ingles finished this one with 2 points, 4 rebounds and a dime on 1/3 shooting from the field in 21 minutes of action. He attempted one three-pointer and missed it.

Did he wake up on the wrong side of the bed? Did a career 41.5% three-point shooter have some unfathomable revelation about the merits of not shooting? Is he the victim of some kind of curse?

It’s hard to comprehend his performance last night. He looked generally passive. Ingles’ conservative shot selection is typically worthy of praise: he knows which looks he wants, and he sinks them with elite reliability. Nonetheless, three shot attempts over the course of an entire game won’t suffice from the beloved Jazzman.

There is absolutely nothing to worry about here. Ingles is the antithesis of a volume scorer, and he’s always going to have quiet nights. Still, it’s hard to classify last night’s performance as anything short of an absolute dud.

The Utah Jazz improved to 8-3 in this contest, further cementing their status as legitimate NBA title contenders in 2021-22. They’ll try to continue that trend against the Indiana Pacers tomorrow evening.
