Nikola Vucevic

When Rudy Gobert was diagnosed with novel coronavirus, he failed to get much support from not only his teammates, but the entire NBA. While others were getting love and prayers, Gobert was practically left out to dry.

One player came to Gobert’s aid time and time again, and that player is Orlando’s Evan Fournier. Since then, a lot of fans have tossed around the idea of having the duo pair up. Fournier is set to enter a pivotal free agency, with Orlando looking likely to re-sign him.

I don’t see the Jazz making a move for Fournier, but the Magic do have someone that may interest the Jazz if they decide to move Gobert. Nikola Vucevic, who was named an All-Star during the 2018-19 season, could be a solid replacement.

Gobert and Vucevic are different players. Gobert is a much better defender and is superior when it comes to efficiency. Vucevic doesn’t protect the rim nearly as well as Gobert, but gives you a 7’0″ big man that can score from inside and outside. They are, though, both walking double-doubles that any team would love to have.

If you put Gobert on the Magic, they have a chance to be a special team on the defensive end. Rudy Gobert, Johnathan Isaac, Markelle Fultz, Mo Bamba — that’s a great collection of size and length that will give opposing team nightmares.

Vucevic, meanwhile, would open up Utah’s offense as a floor-spacer. Utah would have the chance to put shooters at every position on the court, giving them an intriguing plan offensively. Defensively, they’d take a major step back, but their offense would give them a chance to compete every night.
