March 23rd of 2018 vs Spurs

The Utah Jazz lost this game to the San Antonio Spurs, but it was a memorable one. The game went to overtime thanks to late-game heroics from then rookie Donovan Mitchell.

In the final minute of the 4th quarter, Mitchell scored 11 points including a deep three to force overtime.

Mitchell has yet to hit a game-winning shot in his career, but don’t let that fool you. He’s still very clutch because of moments like these. He’s always making big plays, he just is yet to get the monkey off his back of making a game-winning shot.

Much like former Jazz All-Star, Gordon Hayward, who’s first game-winning shot came against the Cleveland Cavaliers in 2014.

Mitchell finished this game with 35 points, although it took him 36 shots. Derrick Favors shot 8-10 from the field for 22 points and 8 rebounds. LaMarcus Aldridge totaled a then-career-high for the Spurs of 45 points.

He broke that career-high in 2019, when he scored 56 points against the Oklahoma City Thunder. Patty Mills added 25 points in the Spurs win over Utah.

This was also back when Manu Ginobili and Tony Parker were still playing for the Spurs. It seems like it was so long ago that Ginobili announced his retirement, but it’s only been a few years. Maybe that’s just me missing him so much.

Anyway, despite the loss, this was a memorable game for the Jazz in their City Edition uniforms.
