Emmanuel Mudiay

Emmanuel Mudiay came to the Utah Jazz because he wanted to improve as a basketball player. Utah’s player development staff is known as one of the best around the league, and that’s something he admired before joining the Jazz.

After signing a deal for the minimum, Mudiay opened the season as the backup point guard. He did have some struggles, but he quickly busted out and became one of the more likable players on the team. He’s been very good when called upon this season, and should see a raise in free agency, making a return a question mark at the moment.

On the season, Mudiay is averaging 7.3 points, 2.4 rebounds and 2.2 assists while shooting 47 percent from the floor and 36 percent from deep. He’s been money from mid-range, always plays with effort and doesn’t complain about his role. He’s been an awesome addition.

You can just see how much smarter he has gotten during his time in Utah. His decision making is better, his defense is better and I think his viewpoint has improved as well. He sees the game in a different perspective and it’s worked in his benefit.

I’d love to see the Jazz retain Mudiay, but he’s not going to be the top priority. He could likely find more minutes elsewhere, which could influence his free agency decision. He does love though, and has been very vocal about it. We’ll see how it plays out.
