Rudy Gobert

It really hurts me in many ways having to write this. Rudy Gobert, my favorite player, the best player on the Utah Jazz and someone who I thought could be a Jazz lifer, has a gloomy future after his novel coronavirus diagnosis sparked a tension between he and the locker room.

ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski has gone on air stating that Gobert’s lack of seriousness regarding the virus irked some players, most notably Donovan Mitchell. If the All-Star duo can’t repair their relationship, the Utah Jazz may have to make one of their toughest decisions by trading one of them.

Given that the Jazz have team control over the next several years for Mitchell, and plan on offering a max contract extension during the off-season, Gobert would likely be the one to go. He’ll be on an expiring contract and is four years older than Mitchell.

All us Utah Jazz fans can do is hope that this time off gives the team so time to heal and regather themselves. Trading Gobert is not something that the franchise wants to do, so as you can imagine, they will do everything in their power to keep their star duo happy.

We must, however, not get our hopes up. I know I’m only a spectator, but the two seemed to butt heads from time to time prior to the NBA suspending the season. I think they can work it out, but I will also attempt to be mentally prepared if that isn’t the case.

Please, NBA Gods — keep Rudy Gobert in a Utah Jazz uniform for the rest of his career. That’s all I’m asking for!
