Ed Davis

Once thought to be one of the more underrated signings of last summers free agency period, Ed Davis quickly fell out of Utah’s rotation, and a trade over the summer would be best for both sides.

He started the season backing up Rudy Gobert, but a fracture in his leg kept him on the sidelines for a month and he could never really get going from that point on. Tony Bradley, the third year big from North Carolina, leap-frogged him in the rotation and that spot appears to be locked up tightly.

Davis has been underrated throughout his career, but his fit with the Jazz on the court just hasn’t been great. His offensive production isn’t there, and his play in the pick-and-roll wasn’t great. He can still provide a team with very valuable rebounding, but my guess is that team won’t be the Utah Jazz.

Davis signed a two-year, $10 million contract with the Jazz. It shouldn’t be difficult to trade, but the Jazz likely won’t get a great return for him. Still, Davis deserves a chance elsewhere, and you’ll take what you can get. He’s been nothing but professional and classy during his time in Salt Lake City.

If he can get back to the level of play he had in Brooklyn, and Portland before that, then he’ll find a home quickly with his new team. It’s a shame that the Davis signing hasn’t worked out, but I will say this — I’m proud to call him a Jazzman in the end.
