Gobert caps off dominant showing with his best block yet vs Mavericks
Rudy Gobert has a long list of dominant showings throughout his NBA career, but you may have a hard time finding one that would top his outing against Dallas on January 25th.
The 27 year old center who wears #27 led the Jazz to a fourth consecutive win against a tough competitor in Dallas. Gobert spent all night protecting the basket, guarding the perimeter and gobbling up rebounds.
He ended the night with 22 points on a perfect 8-8 shooting. He added 17 rebounds, 13 of which were defensive, and five blocks in 37 hard minutes. Gobert also held Kristaps Porzingis to just 15 points on 6-14 shots.
The highlight of the night, though, came with just over 30 seconds left on the clock. Dallas was down by two points and were a Delon Wright layup away from tying the game. Wright accelerated and made a bee line to the rim but was met by The Stifle Tower.
The block, which you can see at the 1:37 mark in the clip above, propelled the Jazz to the key victory.
Wright is a quick guy, and got Gobert turned around on the perimeter. Gobert, the two-time Defensive Player of the Year, made an insane recovery and blocked his shot clean off the glass. It may be the best defensive play of his career thus far.
This was one of Utah’s best wins of the season, one of Gobert’s best performances of the season and one of the most memorable moments of the season.
