D’Angelo Russell

Another name to keep a close eye on is Golden State Warriors guard D’Angelo Russell. Over time, it’s becoming apparent that Russell isn’t in the Dubs’ future plans.

He feels a bit redundant to have on the same roster as Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson. And even then, I believe Russell’s max salary is a little expensive for a guy that would make a great third or fourth option.

My feeling is that the Warriors pulled the trigger on acquiring him just so they would get some consolation prize from Kevin Durant‘s departure.

It would make a lot of sense for the Warriors to wait to deal D-Lo until this summer. That way, they can see how he fits alongside Steph Curry when he returns from his injury in March.

Nonetheless, the rumors have been running rampant (from reliable sources) that Golden State has been involved in trade talks about Russell. They were wanting to be part of the four team trade between Houston, Atlanta, and Minnesota that went down last night.

Instead what happened was the Denver Nuggets jumped in since the Warriors were asking for too much in return.

Despite the fact that Minnesota looks like they’ve given up on acquiring Russell this week, D-Lo could still be on the move. The Knicks have expressed interest in Russell, and if anything Jazz fans should be hoping D-Lo moves back to the Eastern Conference.

Should he stay in the Bay for the rest of the season, there’s a small chance he really hits it off with Steph Curry during the stretch run making for a terrorizing Warriors team in 2020-21.

If not that, he might get traded to the Minnesota Timberwolves and form a duo with his buddy Karl-Anthony Towns.
