Wednesday, December 4th – Utah Jazz vs. Los Angeles Lakers

Don’t get me wrong, the LA teams aren’t by any means the only ones Jazz fans want to see, so I truly apologize for having yet another one on this list. But the timing of the formerly mentioned as an early-season bout between heavyweights made it too good to pass up. And this December 4th matchup against the Lakers should be a thriller as well.

This will be Utah’s second meeting against the Lakers, with the first coming on the road in the second game of the season, and is the new-look Lakers’ first visit to Salt Lake City on the year.

Of course, it’s easy to understand why the Lakers coming to town is a game worthy of circling on the calendar. With LeBron James and newcomer Anthony Davis in tow, this is a star-studded duo that is primed to make some noise in the Western Conference and is certain to entertain fans night in and night out. Regardless of opinions on the remainder of their roster, James and Davis alone will be sufficient to lead this team to significant heights.

But beyond the fact that this will be a game between two competitive Western Conference squads and that King James and The Brow will be in town, this game holds significance for another reason. And, admittedly, that reason does indeed revolve around LeBron James.

Jazz fans never had the opportunity to see James in action in Salt Lake City last season as a groin injury held him out of action for several games, including both contests in Vivint Arena. That’s disappointing from an entertainment perspective, but it’s even more disappointing as it denied the Jazz a chance at defending what has been an impressive run. Namely, James has lost eight straight contests in Salt Lake City.

That’s right, it’s been a long, long time since LeBron got a win in Utah. And since the Jazz weren’t given a chance to extend it last year, his first visit on December 4th will be an exciting one. If all goes well, Utah will be able to hand him a whopping ninth straight loss in the Beehive State.

Such an opportunity has been a long time coming after the missed chances last year, making this game one of the most exhilarating of the upcoming 2019-20 season.
