Utah Jazz: One intangible trait that each newcomer will bring to the team
Mike Conley – Leadership
The Utah Jazz’s success this summer begins and ends with the addition of Mike Conley. Not only is he of himself an exceptional talent and a great fit alongside Donovan Mitchell, but he’s been crucial in the recruiting of other players such as Ed Davis, Jeff Green and Emmanuel Mudiay. Before joining the Jazz, each was sure to pick Conley’s brain first and see just what he thought about the situation.
Obviously he did a good job of selling the team, because all three came on board. And each one has alluded to a desire to play with Conley being a major selling point, which clearly encapsulates his intangible trait. The leadership that Mike Conley will bring to the team will be unrivaled.
He’s a battle-hardened guard that has played and started in 56 playoff games, which has included a trip to the Western Conference Finals, something the Jazz haven’t sniffed since Deron Williams was calling the shots at the point position. As an experienced floor general with 12 years of experience in the NBA, he knows how to lead and direct a team to great success. His experience and expertise will be crucial as he mentors Donovan Mitchell and helps better his entire Jazz team.
Not only that, but Conley is clearly reputed as an outstanding teammate that guys want to play with and go to battle alongside. He won the Teammate of the Year Award this last season and is known for pushing guys to their utmost potential by correcting them when they’re wrong, lifting them when they’re down, encouraging them when needed, and ultimately getting the best out of them at all times.
He’s an exceptional talent and an even better leader – exactly the kind of guy the Jazz want calling the shots up and down the floor for the squad. His experience and proven history as an ideal teammate will make him a seamless fit for a Jazz team that has been in need of a guy like Conley with the experience, track record and leadership abilities to serve as a steadying force for a team that’s been prone to droughts and mental lapses at times.
His presence as a mentor and all-around uplifting teammate should take Utah’s chemistry to an even better level and bring everything together as seamlessly as one could imagine.
