He may never get the huge payday we were all expecting him to receive when he was in a contract year with the Jazz in 2017-18, but make no mistake about it — Hood has done well to repair his image after the debacle of his ’18 playoffs with the Cavs.

Hood played a key role down the stretch for the Portland Trail Blazers last season, putting up nearly 10 points per game off the bench and hitting some 3-point shots along the way. As a result, he’ll be back with the Blazers again next season.

The former Jazz wing and the Blazers ultimately agreed on a two-year, $16-million deal on the first day of free agency.

According to Hood, who may have had more lucrative offers elsewhere, it was all about holding onto a bit of happiness in a crazy league.

"“I explored other offers. You’ve got to do due diligence as a player, just like teams do,” said Hood. “But it’s what is going to make me happy? Where can I fit? Sometimes you sway with the decision of what’s going to satisfy you right away. Just talking with my wife alone, a lot of conversations, staying up late, it was about long term. Where can I find a home in this league? Where can I be the best player I can be? Where is my family going to fit? All that played into it and it always came back to Portland every single time.”"
