Catch and Shoot and Pick and Roll Efficiency

Not only can Conley knock it down from deep, but as a whole he’s a knockdown catch and shoot producer. He shot an incredible 59.5 effective field goal percentage in all catch and shoot looks last season. On wide open catch and shoots, that climbed all the way up to 76 percent.

That’s an amazing figure, especially when noting that Quin Snyder’s brilliant offensive system created the highest percentage of wide open field goals of any team in the league last year. Utah’s trouble this past season wasn’t ever that they couldn’t get shots – it was that they couldn’t make them.

Now, add in Conley taking a large percentage of those open shots that Quin’s offense will produce and knocking them down at such an efficient clip. The drive and kick for a catch and shoot look is one of the staples of Snyder’s offense and seeing guys like Donovan Mitchell, Joe Ingles and other ball handlers dishing out to a wide open Conley is going to be a thrilling aspect of the offense.

Beyond that, while we’re on the topic of offensive efficiency, Conley is one of the greatest pick and roll players in the sport. He finished seventh in the NBA in points created out of the pick and roll a season ago, which is a picture perfect match for the Jazz who were third in the league in frequency of running a pick and roll with the ball handler shooting, and sixth in the league in points off that play.

In short, Conley is an expert at executing the pick and roll, a play which has been the Utah Jazz’s absolute bread and butter. Factor in that Mike will have the luxury of running it with two of the NBA’s greatest roll men in Derrick Favors and Rudy Gobert, and it’s going to be exhilarating to see him revolutionize Utah’s offense.

Between being efficient off the ball as an indomitable catch and shoot threat and being prolific as the ball handler in the pick and roll, Mike Conley is bound to absolutely jump start Utah’s offense in a big way. His talents play to the Jazz’s strengths which should only make him even more of a solid fit.
