Donovan Mitchell won Western Conference Player of the Week after leading the Utah Jazz to three straight victories over tough opponents.
Both on and off the court, Utah Jazz star Donovan Mitchell is an absolute stud. The Utah Jazz went 3-0 last week against a trio of daunting playoff squads in the likes of the LA Clippers, Denver Nuggets and Milwaukee Bucks thanks largely to the heroics of the Incredible Spida-Man.
During that three-game stretch, Mitchell averaged 34 points per game on 46.6 percent shooting from the field and an impressive 44.4 percent from deep to go along with five rebounds and five assists. Most notably, in the bout against the Bucks, Donovan went off for an incredible career high of 46 points.
Those incredible stats and the amazing heroics that led to a 3-0 record against some of the NBA’s finest earned Donovan Mitchell the nod for Western Conference Player of the Week. It was much-deserved as Mitchell was prolific in all aspects and the competition that he helped his team knock off was fierce.
Ironically, in the East the winner of the same award for the week was none other than Mitchell’s bygone Rookie of the Year competition Ben Simmons. Simmons posted a much different, though still impressive, stat line of 16.7 points, 13.3 rebounds and 8.0 assists, while going a solid 55 percent from the field and, of course, 0 percent from three.
Mitchell and Simmons are likely to be closely compared to one another throughout their careers considering how prolific both of them were in their rookie year and how tightly contested the Rookie of the Year race was between them. These two earning Player of the Week Awards in the same week is likely just the first of many times both are recognized on similar stages.
In other, but still awesome news relating to Donovan Mitchell. In case you missed it prior to the contest against the Milwaukee Bucks, he had a pretty awesome moment with a fan. Mitchell has made it a pre-game routine to give away his shoes to lucky fans, and he picked an awesome one on Saturday night.
102-year-old Roberta Morgan of Logan, Utah who never misses a Jazz game was sitting courtside on Saturday night and Mitchell rewarded her long-time dedication with an awesome memento of his big night. The video and photos below chronicling the occasion are just priceless:
Just think, Roberta Morgan ended up with the shoe on the very night that Mitchell would later go off for a career-high 46 points. Pretty sweet souvenir, wouldn’t you say?
Between tearing it up on the floor and making the day of 102-year-old fans, I know we’ve asked it before but let me ask again. Is there anything Utah Jazz star Donovan Mitchell can’t do?
