Utah Jazz: Is Rudy Gobert’s All-Star snub the worst in recent memory?
By Josh Padmore
Monta Ellis, 2011
Ah, Monta Ellis. One of my all-time favorites and one of the best players ever to not make an All-Star game. This guy was so good for so long. During the 2010-2011 season, Ellis averaged nearly 25 points per game and he shot a career-high 36 percent from deep.
Team success is an important part to these decisions. The Golden State Warriors weren’t a winning team at this time, but they were competitive and just outside the playoff hunt.
Manu Ginobili, Russell Westbrook and former Jazz point guard Deron Williams made the cut over Ellis. Ellis was a prolific scorer, but Gobert’s snubbing was definitely worse than this.
Thursday’s All-Star reserves announcement marked a tough day for Utah Jazz fans, but there’s still a decent chance that Gobert could get in. Anthony Davis‘ status is up in the air, as he’s currently injured and is also the talk of the league due to his trade request from New Orleans. Also, if another player on the team gets injured prior to the All-Star festivities, Gobert would likely get the call.
That doesn’t change the fact that overall, this was a pretty inexcusable snub. Time will tell if Gobert gets in as an injury replacement.
