The Curse of the Legend’s Son
OK, now this one is crazy. But the Jazz’s play so far this season has been as well, so I don’t think we should overlook any possibilities.
We just spoke of the lone rotation player that Utah opted to part ways with, but what about the other player they let go in free agency? In order to sign draft pick Grayson Allen and extend a contract to former two-way player Georges Niang, the Jazz had to part ways with a pair of guys. Jerebko was the first, but the second was David Stockton, the son of Jazz legend John Stockton.
Alright, so I realize quite plainly that David never added that much to the team on the court or did much to help them win, but what if his removal from the team is the true cause to all this grief? After all, his signing in the first place was a little bit odd as it seemed like nothing more than a nostalgia pickup. Perhaps his addition appeased the basketball gods and allowed the Jazz to have their formidable finish.
Or maybe, signing him was the will of David’s legendary wizard of a father John Stockton himself, and by failing to bring him back, the Jazz angered their former star bringing about woe and misfortune upon the team.
It may seem ridiculous, but I really think we may be on to something here. Sure, David Stockton had a net rating of -46.3 last season, but his impact very well might have gone much deeper than that.
And if his departure offended the basketball gods, or worse, John Stockton, then the Curse of the Legend’s Son could be as deadly as them all.
