Donovan Mitchell has reached a new level of fame as celebrity singer/songwriter Justin Bieber was recently spotted rocking a ‘Spida’ T-shirt.

The Utah Jazz aren’t typically a team that’s in the national spotlight or that enjoys a mainstream following. Due to being in small market Salt Lake City and because of the typical difficulty the Jazz have in attracting stars, at times they can be an afterthought for most casual NBA fans.

However, thanks to back-to-back playoff appearances in which the Jazz have qualified for the second round, they’ve started to receive a little bit more love. But even more than the playoff success, there’s a single player that’s help thrust them into the limelight and receive almost an unprecedented amount of coverage.

That player, of course, is Donovan Mitchell.

Between his shockingly successful rookie season in which he was only edged out for Rookie of the Year by controversial winner Ben Simmons, his Dunk Contest victory, his incredible playoff performance in his postseason debut and all the simply amazing things he does off the court, Donovan Mitchell’s popularity has skyrocketed. He’s beloved by basketball fans across the country, even by ones who formerly didn’t even give a second thought to the Jazz.

And this popularity isn’t just among average Joes, though Donovan’s fanbase certainly is made up of several regular fans just like you and me who may or may not cheer for the Jazz. No, Mitchell has even begun to attract a pretty star-studded fanbase. One pretty interesting example of this surfaced this week when celebrity singer and songwriter Justin Bieber was spotted wearing the Donovan Mitchell ‘Spida’ shirt from Adidas.

The shirt stemmed from the ‘Rookie’ sweatshirt that Donovan Mitchell wore last season, which provided the true definition of a rookie as a stab to Ben Simmons. The Spida shirts are more aimed to just recognize Mitchell’s basketball prowess, but rest assured that they’re a shirt meant specifically for Donovan fans.

And, as you can see in the picture in the tweet below from the Deseret News’ Eric Woodyard, Justin Bieber most certainly considers himself such a fan, based on the threads he’s donning there–

As a multiple-time participant in the NBA Celebrity Game during All-Star weekend, Bieber is clearly an NBA aficionado, so it’s cool to see him expressing some of that fandom towards rising star Donovan Mitchell who, let’s be honest, is pretty much impossible not to like with his awesome play and infectious personality.

Now, I don’t consider myself a Justin Bieber fan by any stretch of the imagination and I have no clue what to even make of what’s going on with his hair in the image above, but I do know that I love the fact that Mitchell’s fame just continues to grow.

Even a guy like Bieber, who many might assume would simply only follow big market or mainstream teams/players, has come to appreciate Donovan Mitchell’s basketball prowess. That kind of recognition is a good thing for both Spida and the Jazz.

Next. Surprise, surprise – Utah Jazz exercise team option on Donovan Mitchell. dark

As Mitchell continues to expand his game and keeps on being a positive influence in the community and to his fans, you can bet that his national exposure is only going to rise. Despite only playing one year with the Utah Jazz thus far, he’s already reached legend status in the Beehive State due to his on and off court accomplishments.

And that acclaim is spreading in a major way as Donovan continues to win over opposing players that sing his praise, fans of all backgrounds that love his game and now celebrities who don his merchandise. Bieber fan or no, this further indication of Mitchell’s rise in popularity is exciting and surprising, especially for a Utah Jazz player.

And I’m certain this is just the beginning as surely his fame is set to only continue to grow as Donovan Mitchell aims for a spectacular sophomore season.
