The Utah Jazz will debut their throwback purple uniforms on November 7th in conjunction with a celebration of 40 seasons in Utah.

Although the new but familiar purple throwback Utah Jazz uniforms have already made their rounds throughout the web after being revealed by the players earlier in the week, the Jazz made it official on Thursday.

Check out the images they released of the sweet-looking threads below–

However, while it’s been known for a while that the purple uniforms would be brought back for the 2018-19 season, and it was cool to see the current players such as Ricky Rubio, Donovan Mitchell and others don them on social media, Thursday’s announcement came with another exciting bit of news. The release and use of the purple throwbacks aren’t just happenstance, they’re actually part of a celebration of 40 years of Jazz basketball in Utah.

In preparation for said celebration, the Utah Jazz also released the following video commemorating the 40-year anniversary. If this doesn’t give you chills, then you’re not a Jazz fan–

The Jazz will be debuting the purple uniforms at the game on November 7th against the Dallas Mavericks and will be wearing them on eight other occasions as well. Per UtahJazz.com, here’s the entire list:

  • Nov. 7, 2018 vs. Dallas
  • Dec. 6, 2018 vs. Houston
  • Dec. 10, 2018 at Oklahoma City
  • Dec. 21, 2018 at Portland
  • Jan. 9, 2019 vs. Orlando
  • March 4, 2019 vs. New Orleans
  • March 13, 2019 at Phoenix
  • April 1, 2019 vs. Charlotte
  • April 7, 2019 at L.A. Lakers

A lot of those games are against big-time opponents, and the highly popular uniforms ought to make tickets for those contests all the more coveted.

Such will particularly be the case for their debut on November 7th. But beyond that game, Jazz fans can expect 40-year celebrations all season long. The Jazz have reported that they will also “highlight iconic moments in franchise history through in-game videos, digital features and special guests throughout the 2018-19 season.”

Those are certain to be exhilarating occasions filled with nostalgia and excitement. Not only that, but when the jerseys debut on November 7th, we’ll be almost a month into the season by then, and the Jazz ought to be rockin’ and rollin’ by that point. Seeing what figures to be a daunting Jazz team go up against a thrilling young Dallas Mavericks squad led by the likes of Dennis Smith Jr and Luka Doncic will make for one heck of a memorable night.

Last year, the city uniforms were all the rage. While I expect those to continue to be wildly popular, I imagine that the purple threads will be the ones that take Jazz fans by storm this year.

Regardless of what the Utah Jazz are wearing on any given night, though, expect them to look good while playing, and to have a wildly successful 2018-19 campaign.
