Utah Jazz: Donovan Mitchell attends rain-soaked Louisville game
Utah Jazz star Donovan Mitchell and fellow Louisville alum Trey Lewis were in attendance at the rainy Louisville football game on Saturday.
It appears that Donovan Mitchell is getting in his football fix before the grind of NBA training camp and the regular season get underway. Last weekend, he was in attendance at University of Utah’s home opener football game against Weber State along with teammate Royce O’Neale and former Ute Kyle Kuzma. This past Saturday, much like Kuzma did in Utah, Mitchell decided to pay a visit to his alma mater.
Mitchell was on-site in Louisville with his former college teammate Trey Lewis, who will also be suiting up for the Jazz in training camp, and likely will go on to play for the Salt Lake City Stars. However, unfortunately for Mitchell and the rest of his fellow Cardinal fans, the weather wasn’t quite as nice as it was in last weekend’s Salt Lake City affair.
Instead, the Louisville vs. Indiana State football game was affected by a straight-up deluge. The rain came pounding down at game-time, and it would eventually result in three first-quarter weather delays, totaling two hours, 33 minutes of stoppage.
That’s quite the time spent waiting around, which unsurprisingly resulted in quite an ugly football game, especially early, and a tough one for fans to sit through. Leading up to the game, Donovan Mitchell did his best to encourage fans to stick it out and endure the pouring rain with a simple message on Twitter–
Unfortunately, the die-hards who lasted the entire contest were few and far between. However, in Donovan Mitchell’s typical determined and unrelenting fashion, he was among that group, with he and Trey Lewis sticking strong in support of their Cards–
As Mitchell was sure to remind everyone, a little bit of rain water never hurt anybody–
In spite of the delays that made it hard to get things going, Louisville would eventually go on to defeat Indiana State by a score of 31-7, moving the Cardinals to 1-1 on the year. I’m sure that Donovan Mitchell enjoyed being present to cheer on his alma mater to a solid victory.
And I can say with absolute certainty, that I know Jazz fans are excited to get to do the same for him in a few short weeks, cheering on him and his Utah Jazz teammates to countless victories on the hardwood during the 2018-19 season.
