There’s been a minor change to the Utah Jazz court that will make it appear somewhat distinct in the upcoming 2018-19 season.

When the Utah Jazz announced that they’d be renovating Vivint Smart Home Arena, for the most part the changes were met with general approval. Sure, many fans felt that they would miss the traditional green seats within the Viv, but the comfy, more team-themed blue seats, as well as several other modifications, have gone a long way to win fans over.

Perhaps the most exciting part about the renovation was the new court that the Jazz would play upon with a more simple design at center court and some nice color changes. Overall, it was a great look for the team.

However, hopefully you didn’t get too overly comfortable with last year’s on-court look, because it appears there’s going to be a further change yet again. As the Salt Lake Tribune’s Andy Larsen confirmed on Twitter on Wednesday, the Jazz will be going with a court that features no paint in the key.

Check out an image for yourself below–

Honestly, I like the blue painted keys a little bit more, but perhaps that’s because I’m partial to anything blue. The more simplistic version of the court looks clean and it’s not like I’m crazy upset about it or anything. As long as the Jazz play well, defend home court for all they’re worth and avoid injury, they could be playing on an asphalt surface for all I care!

Several Jazz fans chimed in on social media to hypothesize the reason for the removal of the paint from “the paint”. Perhaps it will reduce the chances of Rudy Gobert getting called for 3-second violations. Maybe opposing offenses will lose track of the looming rim-protecting monster in the ‘paintless paint’. Or perhaps the Jazz wanted less work when changing the court for the city uniform games. I kid, I kid.

Whatever the reason, this is an interesting change for the team and it will definitely make any reference to ‘the paint’ feel a little different for Jazz home games. Perhaps at some point down the road, we’ll get a concrete answer as to what kind of strategy or logic was behind the alteration of the key.

How many wins do the Utah Jazz need to finish top three in the West?. dark. Next

But even if not, I’m pretty sure we’ll all still enjoy what the Utah Jazz have in store for us in what should be an epic 2018-19 season.

What do you think, Jazz fans? Do you love the new look or are you missing the blue painted area? Let me know in the comments below or on Twitter.
