Five Utah Jazz players that left fans wanting more
By Ryan Aston
5) George Hill
People tend to scoff at George Hill‘s Jazz run now after his strange stops in Sacramento and Cleveland, not to mention Ricky Rubio‘s resurgent second-half efforts last season. But, if we’re being honest, a lot of those same people were openly mourning his loss during Rubio’s early season struggles.
And rightfully so — Rubio was a hot mess on both sides of the ball and Hill had been really, really good during his year with the Jazz.
Over 49 games, Hill averaged 17 points, four assists and three rebounds per game while posting a gaudy 48-40-80 shooting line. Without him, the Jazz don’t win 51 games and a playoff series in 2016-17, even with Gordon Hayward’s All-Star ascension. He was the perfect point guard for the Jazz offense and a vocal leader on the floor for the team.
If Hill had been able to stay healthy and show some of the defensive prowess he’s been known for throughout his career or had he been more amenable during extension talks, maybe he’s still on the team now.
Instead, it was one and done.
