Utah Jazz: The J-Notes’ post-free agency West power rankings
By Ryan Aston
12) Memphis Grizzlies
Mark my words — Jaren Jackson Jr. has a better than average shot at being the best player from the 2018 draft class five years from now. With the former Michigan State standout in tow, Grizzlies fans have something to look forward to in the years to come.
Jackson and a year of good health from Marc Gasol and Mike Conley, could see the Grizz surprising some people next year. That’s probably a tough ask, however, and Memphis probably should have already found deals for their aging core.
11) Dallas Mavericks
The Mavericks hit their lowest point in two decades last season, winning just 24 games, and Dirk Nowitzki‘s career is in its winter, but I actually really like where Mark Cuban’s team sits at the moment. The Mavs are fighters and they’ve got a foundation for good things going forward.
Dallas’ draft-night move to acquire Luka Doncic was an epic win, Dennis Smith Jr. clearly has star potential and DAJ is an elite rim protector and exactly the kind of center the Mavericks have lacked in recent years. Also — Harrison Barnes is a borderline All-Star, quirky though his game may be.
That’s a core you can build around; it’s just going to take some time.
