Utah Jazz star Donovan Mitchell continues his trend of randomly doing awesome things for other people, simply because he can.

More and more with each passing day, it’s becoming apparent that Utah Jazz star Donovan Mitchell is that dude.

I’m not talking about that dude who’s a bona fide bucket-getter, an alpha dog on the hardwood, the face of a franchise on the rise and a media sensation, although Mitchell is definitely all of those things.

More importantly, it’s apparent that Mitchell is that dude who does all the things we think we’d do if we were the best versions of ourselves. He’s that dude who feels compelled to help people and puts good out into the world just because he can.

To that end, the 21-year-old Jazzman made yet another fan’s day over the weekend. This time, the recipient of Mitchell’s random act of kindness was a 10-year-old girl who’s undergoing treatment at Primary Children’s Hospital for a rare form of malignant yolk sac germ cell cancer.

The girl, Maya, just so happened to bump into him at The Cheesecake Factory, that strange and wonderful place where NBA players seem to congregate for…reasons. When she saw her favorite player, she asked him for a quick photograph. In the end, she got a lot more than that.

Mitchell responded by running to his car and coming back with his newest pair of size 17 shoes, which he promptly signed and gifted to the girl. The gesture made the rounds on blogs and social media in short order.

Mitchell continues to be the poster child for what every young, star athlete should be and an incredible representative of the community spirit the Jazz organization values.

For the record, Jazz fans have an opportunity to help Maya as well. A GoFundMe campaign created to help her and her family with her fight was launched on Saturday. You can donate by going HERE.
