Utah Jazz star Donovan Mitchell continues to show that he’s much more than a guy who puts the ball into the basket in epic fashion.

Donovan Mitchell has been a lot of different things since joining the Utah Jazz last summer. He was a draft-night steal, an alpha dog on the court, the 2018 Slam Dunk Champion, the guy who crashes fans’ Fourth of July BBQs, a media sensation and so on.

That said, the best role he’s played since rising to prominence in Jazzland and the basketball world at large may be the role of the good guy; the solid dude. Mitchell routinely acts in a way that endears him to just about everybody.

And this week, his knack for doing the thing we all want to see millionaire, superstar athletes do, but don’t always get to see, continued.

On Thursday, Andrew Simeona took to Twitter to report Mitchell’s latest bit of do-goodery: footing the bill for his brother’s iPhone repair at the Apple Store.

Said Simeona —

"I have a brother that’s a little delayed in his development. At the Apple store today he was told by a rep what he’d have to pay to have his iphone repaired. He couldn’t afford it. Spida overheard and covered the cost for him. Donovan is simply the best #takenote"

When the cost for repairs was more than Simeona’s brother expected, Mitchell was prompted to take action after overhearing the man’s plight. It was obviously an incredible act of kindness, but the Jazz star’s actions didn’t surprise Simeona one bit.

From Andy Larsen, The Salt Lake Tribune

"“Most of our family are big basketball fans. Seeing what Donovan has done, coming into the community, he just dove in,” Simeona said. “That it happened to our own brother gives a big feeling of gratitude, but I wasn’t surprised in the least.”"

For his part, Mitchell was just glad he could make a difference.

To say that it’s not hard to cheer for a guy who operates in this way is putting it mildly. The Rookie of the Year runner-up hasn’t just owned the court more than his fair share of times over the last year, but he’s hitting all the right notes off the hardwood as well. If he’s not chipping in financially during a perfect stranger’s hour of need, he’s singing his adopted home’s praises via Twitter —

At just 21 years old, he’s already the best ambassador for the Jazz organization and the state of Utah fans could hope for. Clearly, the Jazz hit the jackpot with Mitchell in more ways than one.
