Utah Jazz: Top player comparisons for Grayson Allen
By John Keeffer
Joining the Utah Jazz as more of a finished product, we’ll take a look at which current NBA players Grayson Allen’s game most reminds us of.
One of my favorite things to do each year with the new incoming draft class is try to think of current NBA players who their game most reminds me of. This is a common practice, but I feel like people often place unrealistic expectations on new players. They compare them to 10-time All-stars and Hall of Famers, when realistically, very few players are ever going to accomplish those things.
Last year, I did this with Donovan Mitchell, and I feel like I did a pretty good job. I had him compared to three current NBA players: Damian Lillard, Avery Bradley and Eric Bledsoe. I can remember considering Dwyane Wade over Bledsoe, but comparing him to an all-time great shooting guard seemed like a bit much at the time.
This year the Jazz selected Grayson Allen out of Duke University with the 21st pick in the draft. Allen had an up and down career with the Blue Devils, but finished on a high note, averaging 15.5 points, 4.6 assists, 3.3 rebounds and 1.7 steals per game during his senior season. He also attempted 7.5 threes per game, and connected on 37 percent of them.
He showed impressive flashes during the summer league, and looks like he may be able to have a contributing role right out of the gates for this Utah Jazz team, which is impressive for a rookie joining a team that made it to the second round of the playoffs.
Who does he remind us of, though? Are there any players out there that we can look to in order to get an idea of what type of production we should expect? I’ll give you three current NBA players with whom I think he can match similar levels of production.
