Vegas Summer League Stats: 4 GP, 9.3 PPG, 3 RPG, 1 SPG, 0.5 BPG
The play of Stanton Kidd came a bit down to earth after the team left Utah for Vegas, but he showed off enough all-around skill that the Jazz definitely have taken notice. According to several reports, there is mutual interest between Kidd and the Jazz, and discussions have begun on the potential of adding Kidd to the roster. Due to roster space, the deal would likely be similar to Naz Mitrou-Long’s two-way offer.
Kidd has been able to show off an impressive skill set during summer league action. At 6’8″, 225 pounds, Kidd has high athleticism and the makings of a premier wing defender. Add in the fact that he has shown the ability to shoot the three with confidence, and the Jazz may have found themselves another hidden gem.
Kidd was the third leading scorer for the Jazz during the Utah Summer League, averaging 14 points per game, while shooting 58 percent from the floor. He continued to shoot the ball well in Vegas, connecting on 56 percent of his shots.
What impressed me most about Kidd was that he played well within the offense. Oftentimes during the Summer League, you see players forcing the issue and looking for their own shot. Kidd consistently took the right shots, and took advantage of what the offense was generating for him and what the defense was giving him.
Kidd looked confident throughout the Summer League, and to me, was one of the most surprising players. I went to each of the games in Utah, and I had never heard of Stanton Kidd, but it wasn’t long before I was on YouTube looking up all the highlights I could of him. Remember Kidd’s name, Jazz fans, I expect we’ll be hearing more from him in the future.
