John Stockton

The fact that John Stockton is the NBA’s all-time leader in assists and steals isn’t just a byproduct of his longevity, although many would lead you to believe as much. His records came as a result of his hardwood wizardry and dedication to being the best.

If you ask me, that makes him the perfect man to lead the charge of this squad as head coach.

Stockton already has coaching experience, both in the AAU ranks and as an assistant at Montana State, where his daughter Lindsay played. He also fits the profile of the NBA greats that are coaching BIG3 squads, i.e. Gary Payton, Julius Erving, Rick Barry and others.

He and the Mailman could also teach the younger guys some of their…erm…less than savory (but totally legal and absolutely not dirty) tactics on screens and on the D.

Don’t get me wrong — I have no doubts that Stockton could still surprise some people on the court, even at the ripe old age of 56. And, again, it feels weird to put Malone on the floor without his partner in crime. However, his knowledge of the game and the players involved would give my Jazz-centric squad a major edge on the sidelines.
