In a recent piece written by Derrick Favors, he made his reasoning for staying with the Utah Jazz clear – to bring a championship to Salt Lake City.

It’s been a good stretch of late for Utah Jazz fans. After one of the most exciting closes to a season in recent memory, the Jazz then went on to defeat the Oklahoma City Thunder and advance to the second round of the NBA Playoffs. Since their season has come to a close, they’ve managed to re-sign each of their free agents, Derrick Favors, Dante Exum and Raul Neto, to keep their roster intact.

Not only that, but just the other day on the one-year anniversary of the Gordon Hayward decision, rising Jazz star Donovan Mitchell reminded us just how fortunate we are to have him as he spent his Independence day visiting various fans’ parties. Yes, it’s a good time to be a Jazz fan with a team that’s so lovable and easy to cheer for.

And in case you needed more reason to swoon over this team, Derrick Favors recently answered the call. He, Dante Exum and Raul Neto were part of a press conference held by the Jazz on Friday in which each of them had nothing but praiseworthy things to say about the Utah team with which they all just re-signed. But even more impressive was a piece written by Favors (link available below) that was released on UtahJazz.com just before the press conference itself.

In the article entitled, “Here To Win – Why I’m Staying in Utah”, Favors gave his thoughts on the Jazz organization and talked about how Utah had become his home. He also went on to describe his reasoning for remaining with the Jazz. While he alluded to several reasons, the following statement was among the most impactful–

"Last year was a little different for me personally. I had to sacrifice a lot. I had to sacrifice touches. I had to sacrifice shots, minutes, everything really. But I knew it was best for the team. I had to find a way to just make an impact. It was worth the sacrifice. We won a lot of games, made it to the second round of the playoffs. But now I want more.I want to win a championship."

Favors speaks the truth when he says he’s had to make sacrifices, but there’s also no question that he’s been a leading contributor to Utah’s success both in the regular season and in advancing in the playoffs. Considering how iffy his future seemed with the Jazz mere months ago, hearing his dedication and visible excitement to remain in Utah is awesome to behold.

D-Favs is a Jazzman through and through and he’s here to stay. He concluded the article by praising Dennis Lindsey, Quin Snyder and several of his teammates. He was quick to point out that this is a selfless squad that gets along extremely well. Clearly, Favors believes in the special team that is being built in Utah and he doesn’t want to pass up the opportunity to be a part of it.

More than anything, Favors made it clear that he knows the Jazz organization is all about winning, and he’s determined to be a part of achieving that ultimate victory.

His piece is a must-read for all Utah Jazz fans, and it’s so great to see all these players be thrilled to remain in Utah, a place that was recently spurned by its former All-Star and has been perceived as far from a desirable destination in years past.

Derrick Favors, like his teammates, has found a home here. And he intends to keep it that way while aiming to bring a championship to Salt Lake City.

Jazz Nation is behind you, Derrick, and we’re thrilled as well that you’ve chosen to stay.
