Doug McDermott

Due to concerns about his defense, Doug McDermott was perhaps never a likely Jazz target. However, his prolific shooting made him an intriguing prospect for a team that desperately needs to add more sharpshooters to its ranks. Dougie McBuckets is officially off the table, though, as he instead agreed to a three-year, $22 million deal with the Indiana Pacers.

Personally, I think that’s an overpay for McDermott, but I also thought the Pacers got fleeced in the Paul George deal, which they proved to not be the case. McDermott works hard and is a gifted shooter, so if he can improve like others have in Indy, he may be a nice pick-up.

A year ago the Pacers added dead-eye Bojan Bogdanovic and managed to help him turn into a serviceable defender along with being a long-range weapon. If McDermott can perform similarly, this acquisition would work incredibly in Indiana’s favor.
