By Ryan Aston
5) He Can Handle and Pass
Having positional versatility and a diverse set of offensive skills are key in today’s NBA game. I’ll get into some of the physical attributes that aid Allen in this regard later; right now, let’s focus on the aspects of his floor game that make him a good fit for Utah.
Namely, his ability to handle and distribute the rock offensively.
While shooting will be his calling card, Allen has good court vision and even played his fair share at the point for Coach K. His large, thick hands give him strong control of the ball and his burgeoning ability to drive and dish will serve him well at the next level.
He’s not crossing people over like a young Deron Williams out there, but his maneuverability with the ball will catch you off guard at times.
After averaging over 21 points per game as a sophomore, Allen often took on the role of the set-up man in years three and four. Over that span, he assisted on over 21 percent of teammates’ buckets when he was on the court.
In Jazz coach Quin Snyder’s system, making reads and keeping the ball moving is crucial. Allen is equipped to do both.
