As part three of a five-part series, we’ll take a look at five free agent small forwards that the Utah Jazz could consider this summer.
With the 2018 NBA Draft behind us, the Utah Jazz will now be looking forward anxiously towards the next big event on the calendar – the start of free agency. The Jazz could be in for some tough decisions regarding their own free agents Derrick Favors, Dante Exum and Raul Neto, as well as in pursuing available players from around the league.
In the first two parts of this five-part series observing the best targets for the Jazz at each position, my J-Notes colleague Ryan Aston and I took a look at the various guard options for the Jazz. You can check them out for yourselves via the links below:
However, the Jazz are pretty well solidified in their starting backcourt with Ricky Rubio running the point and Donovan Mitchell shouldering the scoring load at the shooting guard spot. So when looking at free agent guards, it was more to add depth than anything. However, in terms of the small forward position, as great as current starter Joe Ingles is, there’s some flexibility there where he could either remain in the starting lineup or take on more of a sixth man role off the bench.
As such, depending on what’s available, Utah could look to add a small forward that fits into either one of those molds – a new and improved starter, or perhaps to add a much needed skill such as shooting off the Jazz bench.
With that being said, without further ado, let’s roll out five such options.
