Derrick Favors sent Utah Jazz fans for a loop once again with yet another vague and cryptic tweet.
You’ve just got to love Derrick Favors. Not only is he as reliable and steady as they come on the court, sacrificing whatever the team asks of him and working his tail off night in and night out, but he’s also a stellar guy off the court.
Beyond that, while some might think that he comes off as somewhat reserved or quiet, he’s clearly got an awesome sense of humor and is a fun guy to be around. He’s shown that in a lot of ways, particularly in various interactions with his teammates, but one of my favorite ways he does so is with his incredibly ambiguous tweets.
We’ve chronicled several such occasions here on TheJNotes.com in which Derrick Favors has been hilarious on Twitter, sending vague tweets with a single word/phrase or often a single emoji that have caused fans to jump to dozens of conclusions. Thus far, hardly any of them (if any at all) have ended up meaning what some fans though Derrick might have been insinuating, and in most cases we may never know the full truth.
And D-Favs has struck once again. On Thursday, Favors posted the simple tweet below featuring nothing more than a peace sign–
Instantly panic erupted. Did this mean peace out? As in goodbye, adieu, so long? Is Derrick Favors telling Jazz fans that he’s leaving the team? His impending free agency is one of the biggest stories facing Utah this summer after all, is this his subtle message to the team?
That’s the reaction that several Jazz fans had upon seeing the tweet, as you can easily see by a quick perusal of the comments. Per the usual, it’s not unfounded to think that’s what Derrick might have been going for. However, with the free agency period still about a month away and tons of decisions still to be made, my bet is that he’s simply messing with Jazz fans once again.
Perhaps he’s just headed out on a trip, kind of like when he posted an airplane emoji earlier in the season. Maybe he was wishing the Cleveland Cavaliers, who were shortly thereafter defeated in the NBA Finals, a warm farewell. It’s possible that he could be promoting a message of world peace.
Or maybe he was mocking that atrocious Metro PCS commercial that’s played relentlessly during the NBA Playoffs of that girl doing the peace sign to random strangers. Blegh, I just made my own skin crawl.
Whatever the case, it’s probably best to not jump to conclusions at this point. Derrick Favors has expressed interest in staying with the Jazz and the Jazz have expressed interest in keeping him. While a surprise opportunity could arise, such as Donovan Mitchell aiming to woo Paul George into Utah’s midst, I’d say it’s more likely that the two parties are aiming to make something work.
And there’s certainly been no concrete decision made at this point. Derrick Favors may yet end up on another team this summer, but I seriously doubt that this latest cryptic tweet had anything to do with that.

Then again, considering Derrick Favors’ hilarious social media use that often sends fans for a roller coaster ride, there’s really no way to know for sure.
