Danny Green — Shooting Guard, San Antonio Spurs

Danny Green is going to be a bit of a wildcard because he has player option with the Spurs. So his availability will entirely depend upon his desire to stay in San Antonio, and if he believes he can obtain a better contract than what he currently has.

Green has long been known as one of the premier 3-and-D wings in the NBA. If he were to become available, I believe the Jazz would actively target him. With Dennis Lindsey’s history with the Spurs, he is very familiar with Green and what he would be bringing to the organization.

The question with Green is are you getting the shooter from 2011-2015, or are you getting the shooter from 2016-2018? During the first four-year stretch, Green shot greater than 40 percent from three every year. Over the last three seasons, though, he has failed to shoot better than 38 percent from three. His shooting has not been terrible, but it has obviously dropped off.

You know you are getting a high-level perimeter defender, but the Jazz would have to trust that his recent shooting is not a sign of things to come. If Green opts into his contract next season, he will be making $10 million with the Spurs. I doubt that Green is going to opt out of that kind of money. Especially after having one of his worst seasons in years.

Still, he would be a great fit for the Jazz if he does.
